During his first papal visit to Poland in May 2006, Pope Benedict XVI blessed the Corner Stone of the future John Paul II Center. This is currently located at the center’s headquarters at 18 Kanonicza Street. Dear Readers, We all remember the memorable day of 16 October 1978, when Cardinal Karol Wojtyła was elected Pope and took the name of John Paul II. His election was an enormous gift for Poland, but most of all – for the Church and the World. Lives of each of us have been enriched and blessed by the person and the service of John Paul II, Servant of God. His pilgrimage showed Christ, the Redeemer of man, to our generation. His sacredness and personality didn’t cease to glow when He died on 2 April 2005. In fact, the glow became stronger after he passed to eternity. Today, we want to preserve the memory of John Paul II the Great. We want to hand over the gift we received to the next generations. Therefore, we’re beginning the work to build the John Paul II Center “Be not afraid!”. The main goal of the Center will be popularization and creative development of John Paul II’s teachings through a wide spectrum of research, education and social activities. The work of the Center will be focused, among others, on helping those in need, on bringing attention to the problems families, children and young people face today, on pilgrim care and support of research regarding this great pontificate. The first step taken to accomplish those goals is construction of the John Paul II Home in Kraków-Łagiewniki. All future activities aimed at popularization of knowledge about the person and work of the Polish Pope will be centered around that place. Design works leading to fulfillment of that concept are already taking place. Beginning of the construction works depends largely on the generosity of the Donators. We therefore address all people of good will, who care about preservation of the heritage of our great fellow countryman, asking for support of this great work, both spiritual and material. Every donation, even the smallest, will be valuable help, which will help build a lasting monument for our Pope John Paul II. President of the John Paul II Center “Be not afraid!”, fr Jan Kabziński
